HITS gGmbH has issued the following privacy statement to demonstrate our firm commitment to secure and trustworthy Internet communication and the individual’s right to privacy. The following applies to all web-sites maintained by the Scientific computing group and not the general, centrally managed web-sites of HITS.


By using this web site, you agree to the collection and use of the information as described here. If we decide to make changes to this privacy policy, we will post the changes on this page so that you will always know what information we collect, and how we use it.

Use and Purpose of Collected Personal Data

On our web site, we only store personal information relating to you with your permission. You may choose to reveal information to us if, for example, you register for an event or subscribe to some of our web services. Information is used solely for the purposes described below. We bind our employees to strictly observe you privacy and confidentiality rights.


1. What Information Do We Collect and Why?

IP Addresses: We use IP addresses to help diagnose problems, to administer our website, and to gather demographic information. When you visit our site, we recognize only your domain name and not your e-mail address. We will see your e-mail address only if you give it to us by filling out a form, using one of our web-services, or by sending us an e-mail message.

User Registration: If you choose to register via email, e.g., by using one of our web-service for Evolutionary Biology, you will receive an email indicating that you data analysis job has finished and you might be informed about sofgtware updates. Note however, that user support for most of our tools is offerd via various google groups. You have full control over registering and de-registering from these google groups.

E-mail Addresses: If you choose to give us your e-mail address, we might communicate with you via e-mail. We do not share your e-mail address with others outside the Scientific Computing group Group. You can choose not to receive any more e-mail at any time. Depending on how your e-mail application is set up, information about you may be transmitted automatically when you send an e-mail to HITS.

Scientific Data: If you use one of our scientific web-services the input and result data you uploaed and generated will be stored for the sole purpuse of conducting the analysis you specified and returning the results to you. This data is neither processed, nor used in any other context.

This site may contain links to other websites. HITS gGmbH is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of other websites.

3. Choice/Opt-out

You can opt out of receiving e-mail communications from us whenever you like. You only need to e-mail us to have your name and details removed from dedicated software-related e-mail list or registration databases.

4. Social Media

YouTube: You can find various presentations and videos at various places on these websites. In order to play them, the website will connect with YouTube, LLC, San Bruno, CA 94066 USA, and transfer personal data to Google Inc. such as your IP address and the webpages you are visiting.
